Description

This is the ability to psychically manipulate metaphysical fields of chance, and thus probability and 'luck'.

Uses/Applications (Pros)

One with this ability could psychically alter probability fields to harness good fortune for oneself, at will. In addition, one could psychically alter probability fields to bestow good fortune onto others, at will. Furthermore, one could psychically alter probability fields to bestow misfortune, at will. One could also psychically charge targets with energy associated with positive or negative probabilities (ie turning targets into good luck charms or bad luck omens), at will. One could even, in some cases, psychically initiate probable events (as well as prevent them or otherwise direct them), as though by Telekinesis, at will.

Weaknesses/Limitations (Cons)

This ability allows one to psychically control probability fields, but unless the user can psychically perceive probable outcomes of a given situation, their understanding of probable outcomes is far more limited, which means their manipulation is likewise restricted.

There is also the concept of 'stochastic inertia' (a metaphysical effect which makes an event harder or easier to cause, prevent or stop).

Certain events are easier to affect than others. For example, if the user wanted to keep a vase from getting knocked over by a clumsy cousin, then it would be as simple as directing the subject's motion elsewhere.

On the other hand, if the user's goal was to prevent a bad pile-up on the intersection, they would have an easier time directing each subject's individual actions, or the actions of a small few, rather than affecting the entire collision all at once.

And some events (ie a loved one's death) might be mixed up in so many complex individual/group actions and/or events, that they are considered 'fixed points in time'. Even aside from this, being able to affect the course and outcome of events "as though by Telekinesis" is almost always on a subtle level, rather than the more dynamic feats (ie nudging targets to move, rather than levitating or deforming objects).
